You might be used to taking a journey throughout Rocky Mountain National Park or Aspen Mountain, but there are other journeys that require attention, like your mental health journey.
Your mental health journey can involve improving your confidence, establishing boundaries, and managing symptoms of a condition that’s affecting your quality of life, such as an anxiety, mood or depressive disorder.
Every person deserves support to improve their mental, emotional and behavioral well-being, and that support can look different for everyone. While some people may get the results they need from regular sessions with a therapist, others may require higher levels of care for severe symptoms.
We’ll go through the different courses of action you can take to find therapy services in Colorado, including the ones we provide at Guidelight Health for more intensive care.
In-person mental health treatment
People often like to connect with their health care providers face-to-face as a way to strengthen their trust in the relationship while being in an environment that’s free from distractions. In-person therapy options include:
Regular outpatient therapy
If you have mild to moderate mental health condition symptoms, or you’re just looking to talk to someone about the challenges that have been affecting your life, regular outpatient therapy sessions are a good starting point. Talking to a therapist in person can help you dive into the root causes of your distress, talk through difficult life changes and develop skills that can help your mental health long into the future.
Intensive outpatient therapy (IOP)
The next step up from outpatient therapy is an IOP. It allows you to prioritize your mental health while still having flexibility to keep up with daily routines. These are programs that involve attending individual and group therapy sessions to gain perspective on your mental health, open up about your challenges and learn strategies from others.
At Guidelight, the programming takes place three times a week, for three hours each day. We provide in-person IOPs for English-speaking clients as well as Spanish-speaking clients.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
If you’re experiencing severe symptoms that are impacting your productivity and relationships, then you may benefit from an intensive, structured program in a safe, judgment-free environment. A PHP allows you to receive an acute level of care that involves a combination of individual and group therapy with medication management. The programming takes place during the day so that you can return home at night to maintain a sense of routine and put your new skills into action.
At Guidelight, our PHP involves two weeks of treatment that takes place over the course of five hours a day, Monday through Friday.
Virtual therapy
Telehealth has become more and more common over the last few years, especially since the pandemic. Even though you’re receiving mental health treatment virtually, the effectiveness of the care is the same as it would be in person. Virtual therapy treatment provides a flexible mental health treatment option that allows you to stay in the comfort of your own home without the time or cost of a commute.
Virtual outpatient therapy
Many therapists offer both virtual and in-person therapy options, though some might be virtual only. A therapist must be licensed to practice in the state of Colorado to provide virtual care to residents.
- Virtual IOP
Even when you need a bit more care beyond regular therapy, you can still receive the treatment you need through the convenience of your mobile devices. Through your camera, you can attend individual and group sessions that help you learn how to take control of your mental health while leaning on others for support during a virtual IOP.
